Star shining bright in beating the Main

IN the only Premier Division game of the day, Blue Star beat Stormont Main 2-0 with goals from Steve Mulholland and Evan Peareth.

In the Premier Division Cup, Crawcrook Albion raced into a two -goal lead against Highwayman thanks to a penalty from Thomas Lippeatt and a strike from Niall Codling.

Daniel Alberts pulled one back for Highwayman before Lippeatt nabed his second and Albion’s third.

Aaron Gregson wrapped up the scoring as Crawcrook ran out 4-1 winners.

Thomas Wilson are also through thanks to a 4-2 victory at Birtley The Hanlon.

Two counters from Mark Burns and one each from Charlie Watson and Ricky Fenwick sent The Wilson into the hat for the next round.

Adam Berry and Connor Finlay replied for The Hanlon.

In Division One, Gateshead Three Tuns stunned unbeaten Saltwell SC, winning 4-2.

Gisel Gil and Martin Baker strikes had given Saltwell a first-half lead before The Tuns hit back after the interval.

Two goals from Jak Charleswor­th and efforts from Chris Kelly and Gary Lindsay sealed the points.

Leam Rangers opened the scoring through Michael Mains before Mark Cooper levelled from the spot for Whickham Bay Horse.

Finishes from Joe Hodgson and Anthony Thompson gave Rangers a 3-1 half-time lead.

Bay Horse then scored three times through Lee Robinson, Kevin Hay and Alex Gascoigne to take the lead late on - but Jonny Dobson equalised in the 90th minute.

In the Durham FA County Cup, Whickham Coachman are the league’s only survivors following their 4-1 success over Shotton Comrades.

A brace from Ryan Davenport was added to by counters from Stephen Hall and Danny Henderson to see the Coachies progress.

Leam Lane WMC were beaten 3-2 at Newton Aycliffe Iron Horse.

Goals from Carl Taylor and Joe Mole were not enough for Leam in this well-contested game.

A1 Allerdene crashed out against Hartlepool Throston Hotspur, Louis Tiplady grabbing their only goal in a 6-1 defeat.

Belle Vue also crashed out 5-2 at home to Sunderland Southwick, Scott Heslop and Charlie Lamb on target for Belle Vue.

■ ONLY two games were played in the North East Sunday League’s Premier Division due to County Cup fixtures.

Blucher Blue Star went down 3-2 at home to Daisy Hill East End Matty Haydon notching twice - and Roof Top drew 2-2 with Hillheads.
