The search is on again for the North’s Rising Stars of Sport

- Alex Wise receives his Rising Stars of Sport award earlier this year

EACH year Sport Newcastle recognises the region’s most promising crop of young sports stars at its annual awards dinner.

Since receiving their Rising Stars of Sport awards from the Lady Mayor, some of this year’s winners have been busy making the headlines.

Golfer Jess Baker achieved national selection after finishing second at the England Girls ‘Under16 Open Golf Championship, representing her country in a match against Switzerland this summer.

Alex Wise has hit the ‘bull’s eye since achieving Rising Star status. He is a talented young archer who this summer became national recurve champion, beating off strong opposition from much older more experienced archers.

British senior 50m backstroke champion Nicholas Pyle joined up with Adam Peaty, James Guy and Duncan Scott to win the European 4x100m relay gold medal for Great Britain and Ireland.

If you know of a young sport star who is on track to emulate the achievements of this year’s Rising Stars then Sport Newcastle want to hear about them.

A prestigious Rising Star award will bring recognition and access to potential future funding opportunities.

Visit www.sportnewcastle.org.uk for further information under the ‘Scholarships’ heading.

The deadline for nominations is December 31 wth next year’s dinner scheduled for March.
