Don’t underestimate third-bottom FC United, warns Armstrong

- By JEFF BOWRON

BLYTH Spartans’ manager Alun Armstrong has warned his side not to read too much into FC United’s league position.

The Spartans take on the thirdbottom Manchester outfit at Croft Park tomorrow looking for a third win on the spin.

Away wins, their first in the league, at Southport and Guiseley have seen Blyth climb to sixthbottom.

Five points separate the two sides, FC United emerging from a run of four difficult games with just one defeat.

They have a new manager in Neil Reynolds and Blyth boss Armstrong is aware of the threat the Red Rebels pose.

He said: “FC United have picked up of late and, while they have only won two league games, they have both been away from home.

“For us to win three in a row would be huge after a disappointing opening three months of the season.

“It would lift the whole place and the fans will be very important for us on Saturday.

“We played very well in winning 3-1 at Guiseley on Tuesday.

“It will be difficult to change the team after a performance like that.

“I have good options if I do decide to tweak it to be more offensive at home, and I am looking for greater consistency.

“Like the fans, I am ever sure what to expect from the players game to game.

“Hopefully, we will build on the two wins on our travels.”

Saturday will come too early for striker Jamie Holmes and defender Alex Nicholson as Blyth look for a fourth home win in the league.
