Femenia is keen to Kik on at United

- Kiko Femenia

WATFORD defender Kiko Femenia is eager to make sure his side’s good start to the season continues with victory over Newcastle United, writes ANDREW MUSGROVE.

The Hornets are currently seventh in the Premier League and head to St James’ Park after winning back-to-back games against Wolves and Huddersfield.

Femenia, who joined from Alaves last summer, has been instrumental in making sure Watford kept two clean sheets in those games.

The Spaniard is keen to make sure the good run as well the strong defensive displays continue.

He said: “It is true we are working hard on the defensive way.

“Everyone is responsible to defend the goal and the goalkeeper, so we just need to keep going and work hard.

“The season is very long and we are doing well but we need to stay down to earth.

“We need to keep playing this way in games and the target is going to be achievable.”

A win for Watford could propel them into the top six and the Hornets head to the North East knowing they have won their last four meetings with United.

The Magpies have struggled with set-pieces this season, many of the goals they have conceded coming from corners and freekicks.

It is something Watford have been working on and it paid dividends in their victory over Huddersfield.

Femenia aded: “It is true we tried it over the week in training.

“We were lucky enough this week that it went into the net.

“I am very happy for everyone, for the team for the three points, for everything.”
