BEST OF THE REST
THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF: AN EXTRA SLICE
Channel 4, 8pm A FINAL slice of Bake Off action before we all descend into a cakefree TV void, pining for the show that we’ve been so invested in for the last couple of months.
Rahul, pictured, took the crown in Tuesday’s finale, a worthy winner against worthy runner-ups Ruby and Kim-Joy. As his name was announced, the nation was cheering from their sofas.
This is the man, thousands of miles away from his family in India, who baked cakes to make friends. The man who described himself as “depressing”. We love an underdog and we backed him all the way.
So hopefully he will feel less depressing by now as he, the finalists and all the eliminated bakers join Jo Brand for a chinwag about the series.
Also joining Jo are Joe Wilkinson, Richard Osman and Bake Off’s very own Noel Fielding, as well as comedy regular Tom Allen.
And there’s a final celebration of viewers’ home bakes, be they good, bad or downright terrifying.
HOUSE OF CARDS
Netflix
OH HOW the mighty can fall, and this series, once the biggest drama on television, now bows out amid the scandal surrounding its former star Kevin Spacey.
Filming for this sixth season was postponed after multiple sexual assault allegations were made against Spacey amid the #MeToo revelations and he was fired by Netflix.
It left fans wondering where the series would take us. But as luck would have it, Spacey’s character Frank Underwood had resigned as President at the end of Season five, leaving his wife Claire to be sworn in. In the final scene, Claire (Robin Wright) turned to camera and said “My turn”.
So this is where this final, shorter season picks up, with Claire in the Oval office, but not everyone wants her there.
Meanwhile, a teaser trailer has already revealed that Frank is dead, but we are yet to find out what happened. Plenty to keep us tuning in until the bitter end.
