Rangers sent reeling after being hit for six in Trophy

THE majority of clubs took a break from Wearside League action on Saturday as the Durham Trophy got under way.

Holders Gateshead Leam Rangers were sent crashing out of the competitio­n after a 6-1 defeat at Horden CW.

Robbie Renwick led the way with four goals for the hosts and John Bowes hit a brace to round off a miserable day for Anthony Huddart’s side.

Barry Turton and John Butler helped Sunderland West End put their recent poor form behind them with a 2-1 win at Annfield Plain.

A Stephen Moody brace and a debut goal from Logan Powell put Silksworth CW on their way to a 3-1 win at Darlington RA.

Aron Burn, Adam Sharp and Gary Crutwell were among the goals as Wearside League leaders Hebburn Town Reserves eased to a 3-0 win against Durham and Wearside League Developmen­t Division club Durham United.

Kieran Voss and Wayne Whitfield helped Darlington Town to an impressive 2-1 home win against in-form Harton and Westoe CW.

Lee Jones and Andrew Blackburn both scored twice to put Hartlepool FC on their way to a 6-2 win at Northern Alliance club Gateshead Rutherford.

Struggling Coxhoe Athletic put in a brave display before falling to defeat at Gateshead A.

Craig Moody scored twice and Stephen Clifford grabbed the other as Athletic finally succumbed to a 4-3 defeat against a young Heed side.

Boldon CA produced one of their best results of the season so far as they won a seven-goal thriller at West Auckland Tuns.

Dimi Limbo scored twice and there was a goal apiece for John Murray and Reece Blakey as Sean Butler’s side ran out 4-3 winners.

Richmond Town secured a 4-3 win against Windscale in the only Wearside League game to take place.

Kallum Holbrook and Ben Darville were on target for the North Yorkshire outfit as they moved up to fifth place in the table.
