CHANCE FOR READERS TO NOMINATE THE WOMEN WHO INSPIRE THEM

- By KATIE COLLINGS Reporter katie.collings@reachplc.com

DO you know a woman whose remarkable achievements deserve to be recognised?

Then there is still time to nominate them for a special award.

The annual Glass Slipper Awards, held by the Sunshine Fund, pay tribute to inspirational women from our region in seven different categories such as Woman of the Year, Young Achiever and Outstanding Business Leader.

The glittering ceremony will take place at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead next February but the deadline to put someone forward is December 3, at 5pm.

Last year Lisa Dunn, the sister of former soldier Nick Dunn, was given the surprise of her life at a ceremony when her brother presented her with Best Newcomer award.

Nick and five other men, known as the Chennai Six, were jailed in India after weapons were found on board a security ship they were working on in 2013. Sister Lisa, of Ashington, worked tirelessly to campaign for their release until they were acquitted and freed in December last year.

Nick took to the stage at the ceremony in an emotional moment to present the accolade to his “amazing, darling, inspirational sister”.

The event in 2019 is sponsored by North of England Protecting & Indemnity Association. The seven categories are:

■ North East Champion

■ Unsung Hero

■ Woman in the Community – sponsored by NCJ Media

■ Young Achiever

■ Outstanding Business Leader

■ Remarkable Woman

■ Lifetime Achievement Award – sponsored by North Group.
