Healthy Living Week

-

EMMANUEL’S ANNUAL HEALTHY LIVING WEEK was a great success, with this year’s theme: ‘Come and have a go’. Around 600 students took part in one or more activity in their free time, to prove their determination and willingness to try something new. While some braved surfing in South Shields, others stayed a little closer to home, choosing from a long list of exciting activities including self-defence classes, boxing, futsal, netball, hockey, rugby, basketball and cross-country. A fan-favourite this year seemed to be the Nerf-gun battles, with Mary Idika and Yaazana Kannan from Year 7 noting: “It was really fun; the organisers showed us how to use the guns and the boys actually included us! They may have had more experience, but I’m sure we can beat them next time!” Matthew Bailey (Year 7) added: “It was great hiding behind the obstacles and making a base.” Clearly it was not one to miss!

During the same week, over 110 swimmers competed in the House Swimming Gala where various College records were broken: the Year 7 & 8 girls’ 25m freestyle by Katrina Ho, the Year 7 & 8 boys’ 25m backstroke by Harrison Brodie, and the Romans girls’ 4 x 25m freestyle. Congratulations to Galatians House which emerged victorious overall.

The spirit of healthy living even extended as far as the Macmillan cake sale, which featured some special, healthy options. The event raised a fantastic £393.41. Overall, the week hugely inspired every student, and we look forward to next year!
