WHITLEY Tomahawks moved to the top of English Under-15 North Division Two after beating Solihull Barons at Hillheads 6-2 on Sunday.

They did not take the lead until the eighth minute when Josh Hutton scored his fourth goal of the season. The lead was doubled two minutes later when Matthew Betham scored.

Solihull picked up their only penalty of the game just 31 seconds into the middle period and Tomahawks took full advantage to increase their lead to 3-0.

Owen Yarrow was on hand for his 14th goal of the season, with Dylan Towndrow picking an assist for his first point of the season at 15.58 in his first game of the season.

Solihull reduced the deficit at 21.40 through Isaac Jeffs.

Tomahawks’ response was rapid as they replied with a three-goal strike in as many minutes.

It got worse for Solihull when, 62 seconds later, Lewis Denham fed Liam Rowell to fire home his first goal of the season for a 6-1 lead. It was also Denham’s first ever point.

The Barons scored a second consolation goal which came on the powerplay through the Maksims Fomins. Tomahawks have a two point lead at the top of the table over Telford Tigers, who have maximum points from their four games played to date.

Whitley Braves made the trip to face Kingston Sharks on Saturday in English Under-18 North Division Two and were on the wrong end of a 9-2 scoreline on Humberside.

The league-leading Sharks, with an unbeaten record, peppered Jack Wakefield in the Braves net and he made some outstanding saves to keep the scoreline down.

Braves were awarded a penalty shot at 23.46 when Thomas Fraser was hooked when ready to unleash a shot on Oliver Goodman in the Home net.

But Kingston restored their three-goal cushion just before the halfway stage through Declan Jones.

At the start of the final period Wakefield, who had faced 43 shots in the first two periods, conceding just four goals, was replaced by Bobby Campbell. He was beaten with 33 seconds gone on the clock as Charles Blissett got first of the game.

Braves’ Alexander Nergaard sent for an early shower on a five plus game misconduct for the slashing call on Blissett which brought a penalty shot.
