Fans step in as Little Mix star sheds tears at gig

LITTLE Mix star Jade Thirlwall broke down in tears and was forced to stop singing during a live performance, prompting adoring fans to sing the words instead.

The X Factor-winning girl group performed a ballad rendition of their song Only You at the Apple Music Festival in London when the 25-year-old South Shields singer began to well up during her solo.

A visibly emotional Jade began to sing the words “one brick at a time we watched it fall” but struggled to complete the line and took the microphone away from her mouth.

After it became clear she was too choked up to continue, the audience belted out the next couple of lines and then, encouraged by the other band members, the whole chorus. Bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock put a comforting arm around Jade, who later joked: “I have really good ad-libs as well”.

Jade, who has dated The Struts’ Jed Elliott since 2015, had earlier in the week said on Instagram that she was “hiding her problems”, causing concern from fans. The band, who have been touring ahead of the releasing of their album LM5, have had to deny rumours that they had a massive falling out with Syco record label owner Simon Cowell, who has parted ways with the group. Cowell has dismissed speculation that he split with the band over a row with the singers, saying the move related to their management company.
