Ship’s victory is not plain sailing

NEWBIGGIN New Ship just scraped through 3-2 against Ashington Town Mortimer in the George Davison Cup.

Goals for the Mortimer came from Liam Thompson and Daniel Hartshorn.

Liam Halliday led the scoring for the Ship with a brace, Ross Burt with their other counter.

Bedlington Social Club beat Bubbles Ashington 4-3.

Liam Candlish hit a hat-trick for the victors, Tommy Wilkinson also on target. Jordan Lashley (2) and Ben Wackett struck for Bubbles.

Newsham Victory went down for the second week running against Ashington RAOB, this time 3-2.

Ryan Waite claimed both counters for the Vic, Damien Stevens (2) and Ben Turnbull on the mark for RAOB.

In the Premier Division, Amble Tavern and Blyth Town Sunday drew 1-1, Josh Hay notching for the Tavern and Robert Ridley on the mark for Blyth Town.

Ellington Plough overcame Cambois Club 2-1 in Division One.

Cambois went ahead through Connor Willis - but the Plough came back in the second half to secure the points with two Max Robinson strikes.

■ LEAM Lane WMC kept up the 100% record in the Gateshead Sunday League Premiershi­p with a 6-1 victory at Thomas Wilson.

Two goals from Jonathan Hirst set Leam on their way before Joe Mole added a third before half -time.

Hirst scored again to complete his hat-trick, then Carl Taylor slotted home a penalty.

The Wilson got on the score sheet through Michael Cook but Leam wrapped up the scoring through Michael Quigley.

Also maintainin­g their 100% league record were Whickham Coachman, who returned from Birtley The Hanlon with a 4-1 success.

Andrew Davidson, Matty Baldwin, Alex White and Danny Spoor all registered for the Coachies, Connor Finlay replying for The Hanlon.

Crawcrook Albion were 4-3 winners against Stormont Main.

A brace from Tom Lippeatt and one each from Alistair Wilson and Chris Holt enabled Albion to take the points.

Two counters from Dean McCallum and one from Joe Joyce were in vain for Main.

In Division One, Ryton and Crawcrook picked up their first points of the season with a 6-4 verdict at Inter XI.

Bradley Carey was the hat-trick hero for Ryton and his finishes were added to by a brace from Joseph Hardy and one from Darren Hodgson.
