Victory Swann to savour

STAR FAIL TO SHINE IN A SHOCK LOSS TO UNITED BAY PLASTICS NORTHERN ALLIANCE LG PREMIER DIVISION

FC United of Newcastle moved off the foot of the table with a shock 4-2 win at high-flying Newcastle Blue Star.

The visitors led via an early own goal and a first of the game for Dillon Swann inside the opening 15 minutes.

Martin Soulsby nabbed a quickfire brace either side of the interval to level proceeding­s before Ryan McAvoy restored United’s lead, Swann grabbing the winner with his second in the final 20 minutes.

Gateshead A also picked up a big win when they defeated visitors North Shields Athletic 5-2.

Dobie bagged a brace alongside efforts from Moody, Slater and Warriner, Beattie and Dunn replying.

New Fordley edged ten-man Newcastle Chemfica 3-2, all the goals arriving in the second half.

Steve McLaughlin opened the scoring from the spot, Micky Fenwick equalising.

Sam Grieveson restored the visitors’ lead but counters from Dan Foster and Jordan Miller in the final ten minutes turned the game.

Leaders Newcastle University extended the gap at the top to 11 points with a come-from-behind 6-2 home victory against Ponteland.

The visitors led through Henry Rawlinson early on before first-half braces from Keith Douglas and Lefteris Alambritis put the Students out in front by the break. Conrad Zylko made it five shortly after the restart and Olly Walden sealed the victory before Scott Young nicked a second for the Pont late on.

Strikes from Niki Langston and Tom Young gave Gateshead Rutherford a 2-1 success over Percy Main.

A double from Cameron Cunningham helped Alnwick Town to a 3-0 home win over 10-man Seaton Delaval, Joseph Threlfall with the third at the death, and Shankhouse came through 4-1 at lowly North Shields Athletic.

Hosts Athletic led after just 11 minutes through Phil Watson but the Hoose turned it around to lead at the break through Oliver Young and Jay Younger.

Chris Marshall made it three 20 minutes into the second period and Andrew Anderson put the result beyond doubt minutes later.

Killingwor­th reached the semifinal

of the Northumber­land Benevolent Bowl with a hard-fought win at Wallington, who had John Paxton notching three for them.

Killy’s leading marksman Malcolm Morien bagged another hattrick, Konner Lamb with a brace.

■ NORTH Sunderland kept up their challenge at the top of the Sportsworl­d North Northumber­land League.

A Ryan Thompson hat-trick plus goals by Frazer Tait and Adam Weightman enabled them to take the points against Ashington Town.

Regan Turnbull netted twice as Alnmouth notched five times against Lowick United.

Craster /Embleton United’s Richard Stanwix and Terry Ord scored two each as they netted eight times against Bedlington Seniors A.

Wooler and Amble St Cuthbert shared the points, Brandon Crombie and Matty Spiers with two apiece for their respective clubs.

Luke Taylor was a early scorer for Amble Masons but Paul Muers grabbed a late equaliser for Alnwick Town Developmen­t Squad.
