Blyth boss is taking Stock of opposition

- By JEFF BOWRON

IT is a case of one down two to go for Blyth Spartans, who entertain Stockport County tonight.

Blyth came from two down to beat Curzon Ashton 3-2 on Saturday - the first of three home games in a week.

Manager Alun Armstrong now turns his sights to Vanarama National League big guns Stockport.

Armstrong made close to 200 appearances and scored 62 goals during almost four years as a player for County.

Stockport dropped out of the Football League in 2011 and are now in their fourth Conference North campaign.

The Hatters head to Croft Park unbeaten in 11 games and through to the second round of the FA Cup.

Their 3,200 average crowd at Edgeley Park is comfortably the best in the division, Armstrong disappointed the game is not on a weekend.

He said: “If it had been on a Saturday County would have brought a big following as they are well supported and going well.

“I had a great time there after leaving Newcastle in 1994 and they are a Football League club in all but name.

“They are the biggest of several former league clubs in the division and are a good side, so it will be another tough game for us.

“We have only lost three of our last 11 games and deserved the win over Curzon Ashton.”

After tonight’s clash Blyth hit the Wembley trail when they host Marske United in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy on Saturday.
