Thug choked ex as she lay in bed

A TERRIFIED woman thought she was about to die as her violent expartner clasped his hands around her throat and choked her in her bed.

Brute Sam York had been let out of prison early on licence after serving a sentence for attacking the same woman.

He smashed his way into her home as she slept, got on top of her on her bed and began throttling her.

As she wriggled in a desperate bid to get free while he hurled abuse, she “honestly thought he was going to kill her”.

Somehow, she eventually escaped his clutches and savage York then lunged at her, biting her on the bottom as she ran for her life.

She was left with red marks on her neck from being choked and had a puncture wound to her backside from his teeth.

Now York, 33, of Albion Terrace, Lynemouth, Northumberland, has been jailed for 15 months after he admitted assault, breaching a restraining order imposed after the first attack and criminal damage.

Judge Robert Adams told him: “You came into the bedroom, climbed on top of her, grabbed her around the neck and started to strangle her.

“You were threatening and abusive. You choked her and she thought you were going to kill her.

“You threw her around the room. You bit her as she left. She feared for her life. She thought you were going to kill her.

“You must have caused her fairly serious distress.”

Prosecutor Michael Bunch said the couple had reconciled when York was released from the two-year jail term imposed in January 2017 for a similar attack on her.

On August 30, he had asked to come over but the woman said no as she was in bed and had work the next day.

Mr Bunch said: “At about 11.45pm she was woken by the sound of smashing glass. She knew immediately it would be the defendant forcing entry into the address because that method had happened in relation to the previous matter.

The victim said in a statement: “I was in genuine fear for my life.

“I don’t know what he’s capable of and where it stops. I allowed him back and realise what a huge mistake I have made. I am terrified of what he will do next.”

Kate Barnes, defending, said York was recalled to custody immediately to continue the last jail term.

A lifelong restraining order imposed as part of the last sentence remains in force.
