Butler serving up a tasty five-goal feast

SUNDERLAND West End moved to within one point of leaders Hebburn Town Reserves with a 9-1 hammering of Coxhoe Athletic.

John Butler rounded off an impressive week by scoring five goals for the second match in succession.

Bryan Norton grabbed a hat-trick and Daley Clarke rounded off the scoring in an emphatic win for Anthony Nelson’s side.

Wolviston lie in second place as Ryan Hebb netted a dramatic late goal in their 3-2 home victory against Darlington RA.

The scores were level as the game approached its conclusion, Nathan Bayes and Phil Otele notching for the hosts and Chris Tarn and Daniel Pigg finding the target for RA.

However, Hebb slotted home a winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time to ensure his side stayed in second place.

Dave Stevens scored twice in Horden CW’s comfortabl­e 4-0 home success against Annfield Plain.

That result moves Horden to within two points of the top five.

Harton and Westoe CW wasted the chance to continue their fine form as they were held at home by local rivals Boldon CA.

John Murray netted a brace for Boldon but his side looked destined for another defeat as counters from Grant Pressling, Sam Urwin and Levi Collins put the hosts on the brink of three points.

James Cook’s second-half brace helped Silksworth CW come from behind to secure a 2-1 win at Windscale in round one of the Monkwearmo­uth Charity Cup.

Scott Ryan struck twice in Richmond Town’s 4-3 victory over Gateshead Leam Rangers in round two of the same competitio­n.

■ THE league is seeking a new sponsor after main backer TWR BiFolds decided not to renew its deal at the end of this campaign.

The Peterlee-based company has been the league’s main sponsor for the last three seasons.
