GARY Wilson was at his awesome best at Whitley Bay Snooker Centre’s latest one-day handicapped event.

The Wallsend cueman produced a superb display of potting - which included a hat-trick of century breaks - on his way to beating Dale Allan 3-0.

In the last eight Wilson (pictured below) bombarded North Shields’ Carl Sexton (off 85) with a string of runs in the 40s, 50s and 60s to register a comfortable 3-0 win

He then really showed his class by beating Morpeth’s talented club player Gerry McNally by the same score in the semis with even better breaks of 89, 134 and 136.

In the other half of the draw, Allan (off 10) beat the only lady entry on the day Wallsend’s Maureen Rowland - 3-1, to whom he was conceding 50 points a frame.

Despite receiving a 40 start, Gateshead newcomer Grant Lowery failed to make any impression and crashed out in three straight sets to become Allan’s second victim of the day.

With Wilson conceding only 30 points to the seasider, the final shoot-out was fast and furious affair - Wilson triumphing without dropping a frame.

The highest break of the day award went to Gerry McNally’s 85 plus his 20-points handicap, giving him a total break of 105.

North Shields’ junior TJ Rendles (off 40 ) claimed the plate winner’s award with a 2-0 victory over Gateshead’s minus20 player Branden Hall. ■■WILSON and four other North players - Elliot Slessor, Sam Craigie, John Astley and David Lilley - contested the UK Championship at York.

Wilson claimed a 6-4 result against Southampton’s Billy-Joe Castle which boasted runs of 65, 51, 74 and 61 and then dismissed Devon’s Sam Baird 6-3.

In the last 32 he was beaten 6-4 by Barry Hawkins.

Slessor was edged out 6-5 in a decider by Essex Mark King, while Craigie also suffered a 6-4 defeat to Sussex’s Mark Davis.

Lilley and Astley crashed out 6-0 to Judd Trump and Joe Perry respectively.
