Jorgensen to join up with the Diamonds

-

DANISH star Thomas Jorgensen, who played a big part in King’s Lynn topping the SGB Premiership League table this year, is on his way to join Newcastle BTS Diamonds for the 2019 Championship season at Byker, writes BARRY WALLACE.

Diamonds’ co-promoter Martin Phillips said: “I am more than happy to get Thomas’ signature on a contract as he was on our radar for this year, too.

“Unfortunately at that time he received an offer to race in Poland and, like many others tempted to see if the grass was greener over there, accepted it.

“However, things did not work out and he saw out the British season by joining Redcar in the Championship as well as fulfilling all his King’s Lynn commitments.”

Jorgensen (below) first came over here in 2010 with a touring bunch of Scandinavian racers called Team Viking and caught the eye of several British promoters. Scunthorpe was his first British club and he helped the Scorpions lift the Premier League (now Championship) title in 2012. Since then, the upbeat Dane has had spells with Berwick and Workington in addition to his lateseason stint with Redcar, where he topped the Bears’ averages.

Jorgensen’s move up to the top tier of racing in this country with King’s Lynn has brought out the best in him and he averaged over six points a match against some of the world’s best racers, so Diamonds’ fans should be in for plenty of thrills.

The club has also announced matchday and season ticket prices for 2019 as follows: Single meeting admission: Adults £17; concessions £13; children £3.

The season ticket package covers the following 17 meetings: All three Shield group and 11 League, the first home Knockout Cup-tie and two Challenge matches.

The costs are: Adults £255; concessions £195; children £30.

For any further home meetings beyond those shown, season ticket holders will be required to pay just £10 (adults and concessions) or £2 (children).

Those reduced admission prices also include the Diamonds’ 90th anniversary meeting.

Full details of how to purchase season tickets are available on the club website, www.newcastle diamonds.co.uk.
