BEST OF THE REST

- Jordan and Ronnie record a soul classic together George Clark explores some unusual alpine properties

THIS IS MY SONG

BBC1, 8pm (BBC Wales, 9pm)

THIS emotive series sees ordinary people invited to work with the music industry’s top producers to create a track for a personal reason. Then they perform it in the studio in front of proud friends or relatives.

In this episode, Jordan, 23, and his granddad Ronnie, 72, record Ben E. King’s classic Stand By Me to celebrate their close bond and love of singing together.

Elsewhere, we hear how 26-year-old Matt has struggled with a stammer, but music changed his life. He wants to thank his dad, who bought him a bass guitar when he was 10, and records Green Day’s Basket Case.

But it’s the story of Jasmine, 13, that will pull on the heart-strings the most.

She suffers with chronic anxiety, but wants to record Andra Day’s Rise Up, a track that helped her through tough times.

She says: “When I feel anxious or upset or sad, each word that I sing is letting it all go.”

AMAZING SPACES WINTER WONDERLAND

Channel 4, 8pm

A SPECIAL episode with more than a dusting of snow, as architect George Clarke heads to the white peaks of the Swiss, French and Italian Alps.

And some of the alpine builds he sees, along with his craftsman mate Will Hardie, look almost other-worldly.

George says: “This is one of the most dramatic landscapes on earth and the buildings here are truly one of a kind.”

Starting an epic road trip from an observation point 3,500m above sea level, they set out on an adventure spanning mountain ranges, which takes in a secret ski lodge disguised as a boulder; a tree house resembling a giant acorn, a traditional Swiss cabin made almost entirely from concrete and a tiny hamlet made up of eight 200-year-old chalets brought together from all over the Alps.

And before heading home, George and Will visit a breathtaking mountaintop restaurant resembling a spaceship, before competing in a toboggan race.
