WHILE we are worrying about Christmas gifts and whether to go for turkey or try goose this year, the worlds of Hollywood and haute couture came together this week for The British Fashion Awards 2018 at London’s Albert Hall.

As you might expect of an event with the word ‘fashion’ in its name, there were some... ahem, interesting looks. Let’s just say that certain individuals have yet to grasp that sometimes less is actually less when it comes to dress material and others appeared to have taken their style cues from panto characters.

But it wasn’t all bad. In among the see-through and the frou frou were some gems. With her new darker hair, Jenna Coleman looked very striking. Fittingly for an actress best known for playing Queen Victoria, she opted for a very retro look teaming her high-neck, ruffled satin gown from Preen by Thornton Bregazzi with Hollywood curls and vampish dark red lipstick and nails. Loving this edgy new Jenna.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is not one to put a foot wrong on the red carpet and for Monday’s event opted for a dramatic fish-scale skirt gown by Givenchy Haute Couture. The house’s creative director, Clare Waight Keller took home the Designer of the Year award (presented by the Duchess of Sussex, no less!) and we’d have given her the honour on the strength of this frock alone.

Finally, those of you looking for NYE inspiration, check out Penelope Cruz’s gown. Not only is it Chanel sweetie, but it has pockets!
