Rendles is on cue for a title double

-

AFTER last Saturday’s one-day handicapped pro-am event at Whitley Bay Snooker Centre the organisers decided to run another competition the following day - but only for players with handicaps of 25 and over.

Saturday’s top preliminaryround match was the one between the two top minus players in Wallsend’s Elliot Slessor (off –40) and Gateshead’s Brandon Hall (off -20) .

It eventually went to Hall 3-2 on the final black.

Hall’s next two victories to reach the final were both 3-1 affairs against Wallsend’s Maureen Rowland (off 80) and Hartlepool’s Vincent West (off 45).

In the other half of the draw Blyth’s Branden Erridge (off 40), who was receiving a 20-points-aframe start, proved too good for Morpeth’s Gerry McNally 3-1.

With both players competing off 40, Erridge’s 3-0 winning score ine against Blyth teammate Andrew Robson does not indicate just how close the match was, every frame being taken on the colours.

Despite a 60 start, Erridge’s lack of good safety play and experience allowed Hall in to make 30 and 40 breaks which clinched him the first frame 93-71.

After claiming the highest break of the day award to take the second with a 87 clearance, Hall ran away with the third 91-67.

In the final of the best-of-threeframe plate event, North Shields teenager TJ Rendles triumphed 2-0 against Rowland.

In the following day’s contest, young Rendles (off 45) claimed a 2-0 victory against Whitley’s Ewan Doyle (off 50) .

Gateshead’s Chris Kelso (off 45) clinched the plate with a 2-1 success over Whitley Bay’s Carl Foster.

■■PRUDHOE SC increased their lead at the head of the Newcastle and Gateshead League to two points over Westfield B.
