Stepping back in time this festive season

- BARBARA HODGSON

OLD-STYLE magic is being recreated by Beamish over the festive season and for many families stepping back in time has proved a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the run-up to Christmas.

The open-air museum’s traditional treats continue today with celebrations at 1820s Pockerley Old Hall, 1900s Town, 1900s Pit Village and 1940s Farm. A visit to see Father Christmas in his grotto costs £5 and includes a small, traditional gift and places are on a first-come first served basis.

Visitors can also enjoy some Christmas shopping with a difference at an outdoor bazaar in park or a spin at the fairground or on the ice at the outdoor rink.

Then once the big day is over, the County Durham attraction will be launching straight into Twelfth Night Celebrations at Pockerley Old Hall from December 27 until January 6, except for New Year’s Day.

For the full programme of events see the website.
