Repair men give these white lines the brush off...

LOCALS LEFT BEMUSED BY WORKMEN’S PAINT JOB

- By KALI LINDSAY Reporter kalie.lindsay@reachplc.com

OH, you know what it’s like, you’ve got some painting to do and decide to cut some corners...

Workers from the Northern Gas Networks dug up Grey Street at its junction with Linskill Terrace as part of ongoing maintenance works in North Shields.

And after completing the works, the team repainted the white lines - but only those they had removed, leaving parts with no markings at all.

Business owner Max Sinclair was left bemused after the workers left and didn’t return to finish the markings.

Max, who runs Huscrofts Decorative Salvage, said: “They have been here replacing the pipes with plastic ones and have been digging up areas around here.

“When they finished, the last thing they did was the tarmac and they did that bit and left.

“I thought they would be coming back because they needed to move a railing but they have never returned.” Max, 52, who has run the vintage antique shop for three years, said it has made his customers laugh. “They have been laughing about it,” he said.

“They have said it is political correctness gone mad and how much would it cost for a little extra paint?” Richie Manual, business operations lead at Northern Gas Networks, said: “The safety of customers is our priority.

“Once our engineers had repaired the gas pipe, we carried out work to reinstate the road including backfilling the holes dug and resurfacing. “We are working closely with North Tyneside Council who will repaint any white lines outside the area of our excavation.”
