NON-LEAGUE Fight back as Two-Blues go behind

- By MARK CARRUTHERS

BISHOP Auckland moved into second place in Northern League Division One after they came from two goals down to beat 10-man Newton Aycliffe.

The in-form Two Blues went into the game as heavy favourites, but found themselves with a mountain to climb after a Vinny Gash brace gave Aycliffe a two-goal advantage at half time.

Bishops striker Chris Winn halved the deficit within two minutes of the restart and his side received a further boost when Gash was shown a red card for an altercation with Callum Munro.

Munro got his side back on levelterms on 74 minutes with a closerange finish and striker Andrew Johnson sealed the win four minutes from time when he got on the end of a Michael Hoganson free-kick and headed home at the near post.

Penalties were needed to decide both of Wednesday night’s Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup ties.

Jarrow FC looked set to exit the competition at the hands of Northallerton Town after Damon Reeks put the North Yorkshire outfit ahead on 64 minutes.

An injury-time equaliser from Jonny Evans sent the tie to penalties, but his side were beaten as Northallerton came out on top with a 5-3 in the shoot-out.

Willington and Heaton Stannington failed to break the deadlock over 90 minutes in their third round tie.

But it was Willington that will take their place in the last four of the competition after they won 6-5 on penalties.

Northallerton and Heaton Stannington join Thornaby and holders Chester-le-Street Town in the semi-final draw, which takes place next Tuesday.
