WHITLEY Tomahawks remain in second place in English Under-15 North Division Two after edging past Sheffield Greyhounds 3-2.

The Tomahawks were without Owen Yarrow, Josh Hutton and Bailey Stone at Ice Sheffield.

Both defences were on top in the opening period as the game was ithout a goal.

It burst into action inside 90 seconds of the restart, Greyhounds taking the lead at 16.21 through Jenson Paddey.

It was only 29 seconds later Paddey found himself sitting in the penalty box for a minor tripping penalty.

This brought the visitors on level terms as Tye Addison and Matthew Betham were involved in the build-up to the equalising goal, struck by James Toby at 17.28.

Toby nabbed his second goal of the game and seventh of the season when he put Tomahawks ahead at 26.39 - Betham and Owen Curry with the assists.

Tomahawks ended the second period 2-1 ahead.

It came as no surprise when Sheffield restored parity early in the final period - captain Bobby Bonsall notching their goal with just 91 seconds having elapsed.

The Tomahawks then looked for the winning goal - and were duly rewarded at 41.34.

The Greyhounds were penalised for having too many players on the ice and on the resulting powerplay Curry drove home his eleventh goal of the season.

■■WHITLEY Arrows were on home ice at Hillheads for their derby encounter against Billingham Stars in the English Under- 11 North League encounter - and won 6-0.

Max Torre slipped the puck in his direction and he drove the puck past Harrison McCourt in the Stars’ net.

It was 3-0 with only 31 seconds gone at the start of the second period, Oliver Jardine quick out of the blocks to score.

Before the period had ended the Arrows were among the goals as Jack Williams picked up the assist on Jardine’s second counter of the game in the 25th minute.
