The Price is right for the Cup victors

CONSETT Saint Patricks squeezed past new boys Blyth Family Church 5-4 in the first round of the NECFL League Cup.

Church have yet to win a match this season - but Reece Holiday fired them in front here.

However, their lead lasted only minutes as Scott Sommervill­e equalised.

Peter Price scored on 20 minutes to put Consett in front, Colin Wheatley making the score 3-1 on the half-hour.

Carl Dixon notched three minutes later to reduce the deficit - then on the stroke of half-time Holiday nabbed his second to tie the match at 3-3 at the break.

Price then fired Consett ahead before completing his hat-trick to give Saints a 5-3 advantage.

Connor Shields pulled Blyth back in the game, making the last ten minutes a nervous affair.

There was another Premier Division-Division One clash as Heaton Saints faced Jesmond Parish Church.

Ben Fothergill put Jesmond 1-0 up and after the hour Jamie McFadyen increased the lead to 2-0.

Ben Robinson wrapped the game up in the last five minutes.

The Third Premier DivisionDi­vision One fixture was at Hillsong Newcastle, who took on Jubilee Church Teessside.

Again it was the Premier Division team on the scoresheet first courtesy of Matt Chambers on 29 minutes.

Hillsong’s decisive second came courtesy of an own goal in the 65th minute.

In an all-Division One tie, Morpeth Mighty Oaks lost 4-2 to Stockton Salvation Army.

The Teessiders took the lead after just two minutes through Austin Laidler, Chrissy Skipper making it 2-0 five minutes later.

Scott Burgess registered Morpeth’s first counter before Laidler grabbed his second to restore the two-goal advantage.

Blaine Evans netted on 35 minutes to give Salvation Army a 3-2 half-time lead.

The only goal of the second period came on 71 minutes from the penalty spot - courtesy of Callum Cooke.

Saint Charles RC Church Gosforth recorded the biggest victory of the day, trouncing Saint John’s Snod’s Edge 9-0.
