Man dies in hospital after incident outside pub
A MAN injured in an alleged assault outside a Newcastle pub has died in hospital.
Police have now launched a murder investigation following the death of the 46-year-old man, a day after he was injured.
At around 6.20pm on Thursday, police received a report that a man had been found injured outside The Chesterfield pub on Elswick Road in the west end of the city.
He had suffered a head injury and had gone into cardiac arrest and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle in a critical condition. However, he died in hospital yesterday afternoon.
Four people were arrested on Thursday evening in connection with the incident.
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Ed Small said: “Firstly I want to say our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victim at this difficult time.
“They are receiving support from trained family liaison officers and we would ask that their privacy is respected while police inquiries continue.
“Four people remain in custody but we do need anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information to get in touch with Northumbria Police.”
