Goods come from Far East already

-

I OFTEN find Anonymous Writer from Gosforth’s letters amusing but a recent one takes the biscuit (Feedback, January 25).

He states that if Tory Brexiteers have their way the country will be flooded with sub-standard goods from the Far East and elsewhere. He must live in a parallel world.

The majority of goods in shops and online are produced from outside the EU and much of it from the Far East.

Most non-white household appliances such as TVs, other electrical goods, phones, computers, iphones, cameras, sports goods, clothes, toys and the list gets longer, all come from the Far East under trade deals made with the EU.

He may recall Chinese steel being dumped in this country and we were unable to stop it because of EU rules. Explain that to the many workers on Teesside.

To call all imports from outside the EU as substandard is an insult. Cars, motorcycles. watches, cameras for example are among the best in the world.

Finally he refers to the voting records of the leading Tory Brexiteers without explaining to what exactly he is inferring.

All I can say is that his beloved leader has consistently voted against any EU regulation over the years, was elected in 2017 on a mandate to leave the EU and is now adopting every tactic to stop this happening. His own solution ties us to the EU without any voting rights. So much for democracy. BRIAN TAYLOR,
