MACKAY Wilson is a name not much recalled these days. In his day however he had national fame as the author of Wilson’s Tales of the Borders which he published from Berwick whilst editor to the Berwick Advertiser.

These sold 30,000 copies a week and remained in print for 150 years or so thereafter. Wilson himself was not to reap the reward for his effort as his life was cut short through illness and death less than a year into their publication.

The Wilsons Tales project based in Tweedmouth is reviving interest in this literary history and amongst other things we are trying to trace his descendants. For more information see www. wilsonstales.co.uk

He had no children himself, but the project has been able to trace descendants of his siblings down to George William Beattie who resided at 22 Albert Street, Amble and died on June 30, 1958. Can any of your readers help us locate and contact any surviving family he might have had?
