Hornets stung by the Silks in Trophy semi

WEARSIDE LEAGUE

-

SILKSWORTH CW progressed into the final of the Durham Trophy with a 2-0 home win against Hebburn Town Reserves.

Harry Munday put Silksworth ahead five minutes before halftime and Brandon Alderson doubled the advantage during the second to ensure the Hornets fell to a second semi-final defeat in as many games.

However, Silksworth will have to wait to learn who they will face in the final after the last-four tie between Horden CW and Sunderland West End was abandoned following an injury to the referee.

In the league, Harton and Westoe CW moved to within three points of a place in the top three with a 7-1 demolition of bottom-of-the-table Coxhoe Athletic.

David Crumbie’s side fell behind on 13 minutes as Dagan Taylor gave the hosts a surprise lead at Beechfield Park.

The game was turned on its head before half-time as Adam Bell and Grant Pressling found the net to put the visitors ahead at the interval.

Bell would go on to complete his hat-trick in the second half and further strikes from Jermaine Francois and Paul Burrell helped their side to all three points.

Annfield Plain were also big winners as they put six goals past Darlington RA.

Kai Hewitson led the way with a hat-trick, Adam Knowles scored twice and Joe Johnson also found the net as the visitors claimed maximum points with a devastating display at Brinkburn Road.

Richmond Town bounced back from their surprise home defeat against Darlington Town by claiming all three points from their trip to Gateshead Leam Rangers.

Ben Darville netted twice and Adam Walker grabbed the other counter as the visitors secured a 3-1 success on the south bank of the Tyne.
