Dubravka could have done better with cross – Benitez

- By LEE RYDER

RAFA Benitez has admitted that Martin Dubravka could have “done better” with Willy Boly’s stoppage time equaliser.

But he also stated in his post-game press conference that English referees don’t offer goalkeepers enough protection in situations like the one in which Boly headed home at the death.

Benitez pointed back to the first game between the two sides earlier in the season when decisions also didn’t go his side’s way.

Back in the corresponding fixture, which Wolves won 2-1, Boly stayed on the field after breaking Ayoze Perez’s nose at St James’ Park.

He said: “I think we have to be really disappointed with the way we conceded in both games against this team. We conceded twice against them in the last minute now.

“This after an elbow in the face of one of my players and a penalty not given. We can analyse the way we conceded but I’m really disappointed to do it this way but it is against a good team to be fair.”

When asked if United should have had a free-kick after Boly’s challenge, Benitez said: “In England they don’t understand the rules so you can say whatever you want to say.”

Benitez said Dubravka should have done better with the cross.

He said: “They were pushing, we could do better. Just punch the ball and finish. We had to be strong enough defending the cross. These kind of balls you can do a little bit better, punch the ball.”
