Seniors and juniors take places at county table

THE Northumber­land Junior and Senior Tournament­s will be staged at Cramlingto­n Sporting Club and Cramlingto­n Village School this wekend.

The juniors are in action on Friday (7.00) with the seniors on Saturday (9.00).

Adam Webster is expected to retain the junior singles title.

In the seniors, Graeme Barella will be out to retain his open singles crown but will face strong opposition in Andrew Wilkinson, Chun Yin Yu and Eddie Smith.

■■THE Northumbri­a League junior side of Ethan Brown, Israel Shodeinde and Jack Cairns beat Junior National League North Eastern Division leaders Bishop Auckland 5-4 and also defeated Darlington Academy.

The squad is in second place with one more session to be played.

■■IN the Northumbri­a League, Barella, Phil Prady and Anthony Ainley put The Mount back on top of the Premier Division after a comprehens­ive 10-0 victory over the bottom side Cramlingto­n Stingers.

Newton went to the top of Division One after John Russell, Graeme Bell and Dave Lucas defeated Cramlingto­n Tigers 8-2.

Matfen Senators have a game in hand and are only two points behind Newton.

Third-placed Mount D were held to a draw by Saint Columba’s B, for whom Lee Tinkler claimed a hat-trick.

MItford slipped up in Division Two when they went down 6-4 at home to Old England FATTS.
