Magpies fly off following Wolves blow

- By LEE RYDER

NEWCASTLE United arrived in Alicante in the early hours of yesterday morning after flying directly from their Premier League clash against Wolves.

But they touched down in Spain still licking their wounds after throwing away their slender lead in the 95th minute after Martin Dubravka fumbled a late cross.

Toon players boarded a chartered flight from East Midlands Airport and headed straight for their rooms at the La Finca Golf Resort and Hotel.

Understandably, Rafa Benitez afforded his players a long lie-in and late breakfast following their red-eye flight.

But Benitez will work his players hard and the Magpies will finish off the week with a friendly against CSKA Moscow at the Pinatar Arena Football Centre.

After the 1-1 draw at Wolves and before heading to catch his flight, Benitez said: “We go to Spain now and try to train well.

“We will try to enjoy being together and the new players will get to know their teammates.

“Everybody will be together and be ready for the next one that will be Huddersfield.”

Benitez tried to take the positives from the draw against Wolves and added: “We played against a good team.

“We knew it could be difficult and we coped with it quite well.

“We have one more point and it’s a pity because we had three points already.”
