Star shine bright with success against Albion

BLUE Star moved up to second in the Premier Division with a 2-1 win against Crawcrook Albion.

Robbie Houghton and James Bowman were on the scoresheet in the first half for Blue Star, while Albion’s Alistair Wilson struck with only 10 minutes left to set up a tense finale.

Thomas Wilson remain in fourth after their 6-3 victory at Sheriff Hill Three Tuns.

Two goals from David Hawkins and one from David Jeffers were not enough for The Tuns as a Sam Fraser hat-trick and singles from Adam Mottershea­d, Ricky Fenwick and Chris Douglas earned the Wilson the points.

In Division One, A1 Allerdene regained top spot with a narrow 1-0 success at Holmeside.

With only five minutes remaining, Adam Ingram grabbed the all-important counter with a fine solo effort.

Saltwell SC remain in the chase for top spot after a 17-1 success against Inter XI.

Jordan Stevens was top scorer with five goals, Zadjo Kendjo adding four.

There was also a hat-trick from Luke Steel and a brace from Meechack Kanda, the remaining strikes from Kieran Molloy, Samuel McRichie and Ismael Bamba.

Inter’s solo response came courtesy of Coby Brown.

Whickham Bay Horse are through to the semi finals of the Division One Cup thanks to a 6-1 verdict at Gateshead Three Tuns.

Ryan Cowan hit a double for Horse with Micky Robson, Kevin Hay, Marc Udale and Christophe­r Neve also on target.

Jak Charleswor­th grabbed The Tuns’ only counter.

Leam Lane WMC progressed in the Bob Curry Cup with a 3-2 home verdict against Stormont Main.

Meeting them in the semi-finals will be Felling CC following their 3-1 verdict against Leam Rangers.
