The Chronicle

We’re so inspired by stories of award nominees

-

WOW, what a start to 2019 we’ve had here at The Chronicle Sunshine Fund! Any chance of a quiet start to the year has gone right out of the window.

This week we are busy making the final preparations for our annual Glass Slipper event which we hold at the Hilton Newcastle each year. It celebrates inspirational women, and my team and I were overwhelmed by the amount of applications we received.

Our judging panel was genuinely moved by the nominees’ inspiring and emotive stories. For the first time, we hosted an online poll through ChronicleLive, giving the public the chance to shape the outcome of our Woman in The Community Award.

Keep your eye on our social media channels and in paper for coverage of the event, which takes place on Friday, February 22, to find out who won. Good luck to all the shortlisted nominees and a huge thank you to event and category sponsors North, Reach plc, Lowes, Northern Rail, Newcastle College and Sunderland University.

The Hilton is hosting an evening with exNUFC and England international Rob Lee later this year, in aid of the Chronicle Sunshine Fund. Tickets are now on sale from www.newcastlelegends.com.

This Newcastle Legends event will take place on Friday, April 19 and is a mustattend for football fans. Look out for more news about this and other Newcastle Legends events in the coming weeks as they continue to support the charity and strive to change the lives of disabled children right here in our region.

We recently met with our friends at Stagecoach to chat about the amazing Driving Santas initiative that raised over £6,000 in December. Although Christmas seems like a lifetime ago, it was great to catch up and hear more about how Stagecoach are developing initiatives for disabled passengers. I’m really looking forward to working with Stagecoach in 2019 – look out for exciting news soon on our Go Bananas campaign this June!

I don’t know about you but I’m in dire need of a cuppa! StreetAway is partnering with us to raise money by putting your face on a coffee for a day.

Not only is this a perfect opportunity to get a great social media pic, it’s an easy way to do your bit. All profits from coffees bought on the StreetAway app will be coming to The Sunshine Fund.

StreetAway app founder David Cook said: “We have chosen to partner with this fantastic local charity because of the immense impact they’re having on the local community.”

You can buy your voucher now through the Street Away app which is free to download, and come along to our event on Northumberland Street on Saturday, February 23 from 10am.
