Council tenant evicted after numerous noise complaints

-

PARTY starter Mandy Kerrigan has been evicted from her council home following complaints over excessive noise and partying.

South Tyneside Homes took action against the 38-year-old after numerous complaints about loud music, shouting, and screaming from her three-bedroom maisonette in Bishop Crescent, Jarrow.

Parties would sometimes last for hours through the night with revellers spilling into the street, and police would be called to reports of arguments and fights.

Kerrigan took on the tenancy in June 2016, and South Tyneside Homes started receiving noise complaints from January 2017, South Shields County Court heard.

The court was also told that household waste, black bags and furniture began building up in the front and back gardens over the summer months of 2017, with notices requiring her to clean up the mess being ignored. When South Tyneside Homes was forced to clear the waste in the June, additional bags appeared in July.

Despite warnings that the tenancy was at risk and notices served requiring her to change the situation, the waste accumulation and loud music continued.

An inspection of the property also found damage to internal doors, front and back.

South Tyneside Homes carried out three waste clearances from the gardens over that time at a cost to council taxpayers.

A possession order was secured on November 21, and the eviction took place on Monday.

A South Tyneside Homes spokesperson said: “Kerrigan’s complete lack of responsibility for the property and the antisocial behaviour of visitors to her property have had a serious negative impact on the local community.”
