Snap to it for photos project

- By SIMON DUKE

DO you love getting snap happy in and around town? Well, if you’re free on a Saturday next month, something is happening in Newcastle that should be a picture perfect activity for you.

A multi-award-winning British street photographer is inviting the people of Newcastle to join him in a unique social experiment to capture the lives and times of Newcastle in exactly 24 hours.

Mark Waugh is calling all smartphone snappers and amateur photographers across the North East to grab their cameras and phones on Saturday, March 23, to help capture a day in the life of Newcastle in 2019, that will be remembered forever.

The social experiment – A Day In The Life – will collate thousands of images of the people and landmarks that make Newcastle so unique, from the passionate football fans to students, and the Tyne Bridge to the busy Metrocentre.

This will be the fifth edition of the campaign, which has previously visited Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow, and Liverpool.

The images will then be printed out and transformed into a piece of art by a UK artist, which will represent a famous Newcastle Icon. Creating a permanent testimony of this day in history.

Mark, whose work has been recognised at the prestigious Press Photographer of the Year award, says: “It will be great to see Newcastle’s culture and the people of the North East become a part of the campaign.

“Newcastle is full of opportunities, energy and has plenty of history attached to it.

“There will be so much to capture within the 24 hours from the vibrant nightlife to the new and old architecture that Newcastle has to offer – I can’t wait to get going.

“Each image paints its own picture and tells its own story and all will be commemorated into a unique finalised piece of art to remember the day.”
