‘Speakeasy bar’ to open in Tynemouth

-

SHHHHH. Are you listening carefully?

As we’ve got a very exciting secret... Tynemouth’s very first ‘speakeasy bar’ will open in a location you’ll probably never expect next month.

Strictly on a need to know basis of course, we’re letting you in on the news that The Blind Pig will open in a converted church in Tynemouth on Saturday, March 9.

The new bar, from husband and wife team Stephen and Victoria Bones, the duo behind the award winning Pie & Bottle Shop, gets its name from the fact that a blind pig was a phrase often used in the 1920s prohibition era to describe a hidden bar.

And where better to ‘hide’ one than The Land of Green Ginger on Front Street.

The Blind Pig’s drinks menu will incorporate O’donnell Moonshine Cocktails alongside a fantastic selection of local brewerys including Mordue, Firebrick, Allendale, Anarchy, Flash House and Black Storm.

Drinkers will also get to sup on different beers from American Breweries on tap as well as some more traditional Guinness, Bierra Morretti, wine and soft drinks.

Although the Blind Pig will be small in size, Stephen and Victoria are still planning on squeezing in a few of their pies and bar snacks for everyone to enjoy.

And there is an extra reason to get yourself along on launch night as entertainment will be provided by the North East’s own king of swing, Jason Isaacs. Doors open at 6pm.
