Clooney comment is an insult to the ‘People’s Princess’

-

GEORGE CLOONEY’S impassioned defence of Meghan Markle over recent negative headlines seemed over the top even by Hollywood standards.

“They’re just chasing Meghan Markle, she’s being pursued and vilified,” said the actor. “She is being pursued and hunted and chased in the same way that Diana was, and it’s history repeating itself.”

Clooney then warned: “And we’ve seen how that ends. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to see that.”

It was difficult to know whether the former ER star had in any way watched how the Duchess has been treated in the UK since her relationship with Harry emerged three years ago.

To liken Meghan’s handling to that of the Prince’s mother was an affront to the Princess of the People.

The only similarity, it would seem, between the two is that Meghan has now begun using the press as Diana did before her tragic death.

The irony of what Clooney said in his defence of his fellow American was not lost on me, just days after she appeared to allow five of her best friends to attack her father in a US magazine.

It seems the Duchess, whom the UK press has mostly given a very positive ride, now uses her adopted showbiz family to do her bidding for her, as opposed to the blood relatives she is no longer in touch with.

It was evident from her wedding. Whereas the ceremony was a who’s who of Hollywood, with Clooney, Oprah Winfrey and other stars front and centre, only one of her family, her mother Doria, was present.

It begs the question, just who are her real friends?

I only say that as, I may be wrong, but I can’t recall seeing Clooney by her side before Meghan was a royal bride.
