DURHAM COUNTY CUP

-

NORTH East Regional League Premier Division leaders Durham Cestria achieved a surprise result, beating FA National League Chester-leStreet Town 2-1 at home.

However, it was the visitors who scored all the goals.

Cestria went in at the break 1-0 up courtesy of an own goal by Rachel Mellor.

Ten minutes after the restart, the FA National Northern title challengers were level when Amy Lawson scored at the right end before disaster struck Town again ten minutes later.

Another own goal gave Cestria the lead again, this time Stephanie Jones the unfortunate scorer.

Both sides continued to threaten but it was the NERWFL champions-elect who progressed into the final.

Victory also kept alive their chances of achieving a remarkable trophy treble.

FA National League side Norton and Stockton Ancients saw off NERWFL Northern Division Consett 4-1.

In what will be a league fixture next season, the victory sets the holders up to defend the trophy against Cestria.

Courtney Corrie gave the hosts a fifth-minute lead but Carolanne Hughes made it 1-1 after 17 minutes - the first time Norton have conceded in their cup run.

However, two goals by Bianca Owens before half-time sent the higher league side 3-1 up at the break and Owens went on to complete her hat-trick ten minutes from time.

On Sunday, Town make the journey to Bolton Wanderers ahead of their Tuesday night showdown with rivals Newcastle United.
