Big win is top of the Bill for Mohawks

WHITLEY Mohawks cruised to a 14-2 victory at Forum Ice Arena against Billingham Stars in English Under-13 North Division Two.

The Mohawks made a flying start with two goals from Scott Harwood after just 12 and 48 seconds respective­ly.

Dylan Towndrow increased the lead to 3-0 four minutes later.

Billingham replied with their first consolatio­n goal at 05.25 through captain Jack Leckie.

Chris West restored the visitors’ four-goal cushion after 11 minutes with his first goal of the season.

Before the opening period had ended, Mohawks’ captain Harvey Starkie had made it 5-1.

In the middle session Mohawks could only find their way past Jake Cavagnetto in the Stars’ goal twice - Harwood claiming his hat-trick marker and ninth goal of the season at 24.40 with his side short-handed.

Towndrow added his side’s seventh just 26 seconds later.

Just 12 seconds of the final sesssion had elapsed when Starkie - set up by West - made it 8-1 and Starkie recorded his hattrick marker 16 seconds later.

Billingham netted their second consolatio­n but the Mohawks responded with five goals in under four minutes.

Starkie recorded his fourth of the game and 23rd of the season at 33.04 and 16 seconds later Felix Gurney netted his fourth of the campaign.

The visitors’ only powerplay opportunit­y saw them convert for 12-2 for Towndrow’s hat-trick and a further Towndrow strike and Wilson’s second goal of the season at 36.23 completed the Mohawks’ emphatic victory.

The Mohawks stay in fourth place two points behind Sheffield and Sutton - but have a game in hand over both teams.

■■WHITLEY Arrows lost 12-1 to Kingston Sharks in the English Under-11 North League at Hillheads - Max Torre with the Arrows’ counter.

■■WHITLEY Renegades went down 6-3 to English under-20 North League leaders Sheffield Scimitars.

Anthony Wetherell, Lewis Crisp and Jamie Ord scored for the Renegades.

■■WHITLEY Squaws moved up to third place in the Women’ s Premier League after they defeated Kingston Diamonds 8-2.
