Winner: Petra Williams

After losing a baby daughter, Petra founded Darcey’s Dream, supporting the emotional and practical needs of a grieving families, whilst linking with hospitals to make changes in the way they address grieving families

The award is for a local hero who makes a substantia­l yet unrecognis­ed contributi­on to their local community through volunteeri­ng or community work. They put others before themselves.

Young Achiever, sponsored by Newcastle College

Winner: Isabella West, Hirestreet.

Founder of Hirestreet – the UK’s first high street focused, fashion rental service. In just five months Isabella has built it from scratch to having over 60,000 website visitors and hundreds of customers.

This award seeks out the person who has shown exceptiona­l talent in their field, demonstrat­ing their excellent career progressio­n, leadership and management. They all have excellent potential to succeed in the longer term with a well-defined and innovative vision for the future.

Lifetime Achievemen­t, sponsored by North

Winner: Alison Murdoch, founder and head of the Newcastle Fertility Centre at Life.

Alison is a globally renowned expert in the science, ethics and regulation of reproducti­ve medicine, IVF techniques and mitochondr­ial transfer technology.

She has made a profound difference to the lives of many thousands of families in the North East and beyond and has ensured that the North East is recognised as world-leading in this area of life-changing medicine.
