Blues’ ban could hinder Kenedy deal

-

NEWCASTLE United’s hopes of signing Kenedy permanently could have taken a hit after Chelsea were hit with a transfer ban.

The Blues have been slapped with an embargo for two transfer windows by FIFA for breaching rules on signing players under the age of 18.

It means Stamford Bridge boss Maurizio Sarri – or whoever replaces the under-fire Italian – could have to work in difficult circumstances.

But with Chelsea having a staggering 41 players out on loan, some could be recalled and get their opportunity next season.

United fans might not be too worried given Kenedy’s underwhelming second loan stint but Rafa Benitez would still be interested in a deal if the price was right.

He feels that if he can get the Brazilian settled and focused after a permanent move, he could rediscover his best form.

After Chelsea were hit with a ban, a statement read: “This ban applies to the club as a whole, with the exception of the women’s and futsal teams, and does not prevent the release of players.” This means the Blues would be able to sell but not buy.

FIFA has also fined Chelsea £460,000 ($599,000) and given them a 90-day deadline “to regularise the situation of the minor players concerned.”

Newcastle have other players on their watch list at Chelsea including Michy Batshuayi, Lewis Baker and previous target Tammy Abraham.
