BEST OF THE REST
WARREN
BBC1, 9pm
WITH ITV recently ditching all its sitcoms, like Benidorm and Bad Move, it’s down to the BBC to fill the void. And this offering, starring Martin Clunes as a disgruntled driving instructor, does exactly that.
Clunes is Warren Thompson, southern grump forced to move up north to Preston when his partner Anne’s dad falls ill. They live with her two teenage sons, Charlie and Danny, and Warren is annoyed with everything and everyone.
The laughs and misunderstandings come from the usual places as Warren grapples with keeping up with the neighbours and battling technology.
In this episode he wants Charlie to get a job at the local garden centre just so he can get the staff discount.
LONG LOST FAMILY SPECIAL: BORN WITHOUT A TRACE
ITV, 9pm
FOUNDLINGS are people who were abandoned as babies. As this emotive special episode begins we hear various testimonies: “I was left in a corned beef box” and “I was left in the toilet at a hospital.”
Born without a trace, they have had no way of tracking down their relatives. But of course, the Long Lost Family team, fronted by Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell, has come to the rescue.
Several foundlings have had their DNA tested, with painstaking work to try to trace their birth families.
Expect a tear-jerking 90-minute episode, with some astonishing but at times, heartbreaking results.
