Six arrested in attempted murder case in suburb
SIX people have been arrested in an ongoing attempted murder investigation in a Newcastle suburb.
The arrests have been made after a gun was allegedly fired in Kingston Park on Friday morning.
It was reported that a shot was taken at a white van as the driver waited in traffic lights in Windsor Way junction with Brunton Lane at around 7.25am.
The window was damaged but nobody was injured. The driver of the van and witnesses were left shaken though, police say.
Six people in total have been arrested in connection with the investigation, which is being treated as attempted murder.
The arrests took place during a police operation in the west end of Newcastle.
All six have been released under investigation pending further inquiries.
Following the alleged shooting, a suspect is reported to have got into the passenger side of a vehicle and was driven away from the scene.
Police believe the vehicle to be a blue Rover 75 Saloon, registration AX03 XNC.
The Rover was quickly abandoned and burnt out on South Benwell Road, police say.
Superintendent Deborah Alderson has appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.
She said: “We are very concerned by this incident and inquiries are ongoing.
“We have made a number of arrests but we do believe there are still people out there who have information about the incident and are yet to come forward and speak to police.
“There may also be witnesses who heard the shots and saw people acting suspiciously in the area that morning.
