Top two are both victorious as title race hots up

THE top two are in an all-out Blyth battle for the title with Town leading the way from Spartans Reserves - the pair winning comfortabl­y at the weekend.

Leaders Town are two points clear with games in hand after inflicting a 5-0 defeat on visitors Newcastle East End.

Connor Andrews scoed three times with David Brown and Adam Johnson adding to the tally.

Liam Anderson netted twice for Reserves as they came through 4-2 at Red Row - for whom Max Anderson bagged a brace. Rui Martins and Karl Lazzari completed the scoring.

Bedlington jumped into third as they defeated visitors Wallsend Boys Club 3-1 but Cullerocat­s slipped to a 2-1 reverse at home to fifth-place Winlaton Vulcans.

A Michael Ord brace pushed Bedlington up a place while Collins and Henderson netted for the Vulcans.

Hexham and Hebburn Under-23s swapped places after the latter trumphed 1-0 at the former, David Stansfield with the only goal.

Counters in the match between Gosforth Bohemians and Felling Magpies all came in the second half, the latter winning 2-1 courtesy of Mark McLennan and Michael Mains Joe Collins replying five minutes from time.

At Longbenton there were six different scorers as the hosts lost 4-2 against Forest Hall.

Tony Woods and Kieran Smith struck for the hosts while Craig Harley, Michael Latimer, Rab Lindsay and Jak Pinchen all found the mark for Hall.
