THERE was controvers­y at Metcalfe Park as the game between league leaders Wolviston and Annfield Plain was abandoned with 13 minutes left to play.

The hosts held a 3-2 lead going into the closing stages, by which time their visitors had been reduced to eight men after Chris Killeen, Carlos Malpass and Dan Johnson had been shown red cards.

Two more visiting players were carried off with injuries as the match headed towards the last ten minutes, leaving them with just six players.

That left the referee with no choice but to abandon the fixture.
