Morpeth hit a spot of bother in Cup tie

GOSFORTH Bohemian Reserves are already in the final of the Tyneside Amateur Challenge Shield but also reached the semis of the Neville Cowey Cup with a victory over Morpeth.

An exciting game finished as a 3-3 draw, Nick O’Neil’s brace and Will Pritchard’s strike for Morpeth being cancelled out by a pair from Aaron Bayliss and a stunning overhead kick from Liam Eltringham.

Bohs then held their nerve to go through 5-3 on penalties, custodian Luke Coyle performing heroics between the sticks.

The top two in the league met in the Challenge Shield - and Haltwhistl­e Jubilee reached the last four with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Ponteland United Reserves. Mark Robson and Jack Barker were the marksmen for Jubes, who will meet Morpeth next.

In the league, West Jesmond triumphed impressive­ly 11-2 at Wallsend Boys Club Developmen­t.

Myles Ferraro struck four times, Marc Cowley and Mark Emmerson both netting twice and Liam Mulligan, Dom Martin and Jordan Kozlowski completing their tally.

Jamie Anderson and Calvin Payne countered for Wallsend.

Swalwell picked up three points in their 7-0 result at Wideopen A.

■ NEWCASTLE Hillsong lost 2-0 to Stockton Churches Portrack in the North East Christian Fellowship League’s Premier Division - both goals in the first half from Lee Twizzle and Charlie Iverson.

David Healy of Saint Charles RC Church struck first against Sunderland Samba.

Neil Atkinson equalised but Healy fired Saint Charles back in front again.

A double from Joe Donnald steered Samba to a 3-2 success.

In Division One, Heaton Saints won 7-2 at Blyth Family Church.

Carl Thompson and Phil Russell (2) put Saints 3-0 in front. Simon Wigmore pulled a goal back for Blyth before half-time and Carl Philip Dixon claimed Blyth’s second. Russell notched two more, Matthew Haigh and Jamie Holmes completing the scoring.

Morpeth Mighty Oaks overcame Stockton Salvation Army 6-3.

Lewis Tanney opened the scoring for Oaks, Lewis Cooke equalising before half-time.

Tanney grabbed a second and Josh Bell made it 3-1.

Rory Sawyer notched for Stockton before Bell registered his second and Scott Burgess his first for 5-2.

James Bridge then found the net for the Teessiders before Burgess celebrated his second strike.
