Springtime tranquillity on offer

-

WHEN stresses and strains mount up, a little fresh air and exercise can go a long way in restoring an element of calm and inner peace.

And it seems that both can be found at Gibside near Gateshead, which is inviting visitors to soak up some of its natural charms.

The National Trust estate is today launching its Route to Relaxation, which aims to guide people to peaceful and tucked-away beauty spots within its grounds where it says they can “discover nature and calm surroundings”.

The healing powers of nature are well understood and Gibside’s trail is intended to highlight some of the best places around the estate for some ‘me’ time.

Included on the route are the Ice House Dene and the banks of the River Derwent. And here it encourages visitors to “take in the changing sounds of the water from the babbling stream to the quiet of the river as you go”.

From there visitors can view Gibside’s oldest tree, and look out for signs of spring as well as wildlife such as woodpeckers, red kites, ducks and deer as they immerse themselves “in the sensory delights of nature”.

Gibside has a Georgian landscape garden whose attractions no doubt will increase its appeal in the approach to summer.

It says of the March return of the trail: “This is perfect for some ‘me’ time to awaken your senses and refresh your mind.”
