CAPTAIN MARVEL: BRAVER AND MIGHTIER #1

NEXT week sees Captain Marvel hit the big screen for the first time. For those who are curious about the character and want to know a little bit more, then this one-shot title is very well timed.

Carol Danvers is an air force pilot, but she finds it hard to juggle her day job with her side job – as Earth’s mightiest hero.

Stuck between her duty to her local community, and her responsibility to the wider world Carol’s about to find herself making a very tough decision.

Written by Jody Houser, with art by Simone Buonfantino, Captain Marvel: Braver and Mightier #1 is out now for £3.35.

FARWELL THEN, FRANK CASTLE

WE ALL knew it was probably on the cards, but Netflix’s decision to cancel Jessica Jones and The Punisher didn’t hurt any less. These were the last two Marvel series the streaming giant had, after pulling the plug on Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist last year.

After the news, star John Bernthal (above) thanked fans, writing on Instagram: “To all who have served. All who know loss. All who love and understand Frank and his pain. It has been an honor to walk in his boots.”

Let’s hope this isn’t the last we’ve heard from these great shows.

ALTERED IMAGES

LAST year’s Altered Carbon was a surprise hit on Netflix – making the fact that star Joel Kinnaman had signed up for a new Amazon show a little tricky.

Luckily for viewers, the beauty of Altered Carbon – based on Richard K. Morgan’s 2002 novel of the same name – is that Kinnaman’s Takeshi Kovacs could be recast without too many rewrites as he could be resurrected in a different ‘sleeve’.

Step forward Anthony Mackie, who takes over for season two.

Mackie, best known for playing Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will play Kovacs as he continues his quest to reconnect with revolutionary leader Falconer across time and space.

With production well under way, it’s fair to guess fans will probably have to wait until the end of the year, and possibly early into 2020 for the new series to stream.
