Double delight for Havery

-

CHESTER-LE-STREET Town claimed an impressive 2-0 success at Bolton Wanderers to keep the pressure on the leaders.

Nichole Havery scored two minutes before the interval and then secured the points after 73 minutes.

However, in midweek, Town could only manage a point - drawing 2-2 against rivals Newcastle United at Ashington FC.

Steph Ord headed home a Rebecca Olley corner after 28 minutes to give the Lady Mags a halftime lead.

The title-chasers responded five minutes after the restart, Kacie Elson claiming the equaliser.

On the hour mark, Ord again put Newcastle in front before Havery levelled ten minutes from time.

Town’s dropped points leave them 11 points behind Burnley but with a game in hand.

Newcastle United stay fifth bottom, only five points clear of the second-bottom side.

Norton and Stockton Ancients came close to taking a point off leaders Burnley before a late goal gave the Lancastrians a 5-4 victory.

The leaders went in at the break 4-0 up, Sarah Greenhalgh on target twice, a Lynette Craig penalty and a Vikki Eastwood effort setting up what looked like another comfortable three points.

However, Bianca Owens struck a fine hat-trick and an own goal enabled the hosts to fight back to 4-4.

However, nine minutes from time, Danielle Cooper netted to claim the points for Burnley.

Chester-le-Street Town host fellow title challengers Brighouse Town on Sunday while the Lady Mags have two crucial matches coming up.

They are away to third-bottom Chorley on Sunday before hosting fourth-bottom Norton and Stockton Ancients on Tuesday.

In the Premier Division, Sunderland’s bad run continued as they lost 2-1 at Fylde.

Sasha Rowe gave the hosts a 16thminute lead, which they held until half-time.

Sunderland equalised nine minutes into the second period, Katie Barker turning her defender before her curling shot beat the goalkeeper.

Fylde continued to press and were rewarded 15 minutes from time when a scramble in the box resulted in Olivia Wild poking the ball home after it rebounded off the post.

Rowe hit the crossbar before the Fylde goalkeeper made a tremendous save in the third minute of injury time to seal the win.
